Hi...

I'm a bit surprised that Helix isn't supporting Mandrake 7.2 yet. Has anyone successfully installed it for this version? Any information about when it might be officially supported?

Thanks.

The only part of Helix that isn't included in the version of gnome that comes with 7.2 are some of the apps. Those are all freely downloadable anyway. There is really not much reason to install Helix in 'drake 7.2 though it will work fine if you want to. It will mess up your menus a bit though.

One of the things I like best about Helix is the installer. When a component gets fixed, it's so easy to upgrade.

From what you've said, it sounds like Mandrake 7.2 includes a snapshot of Helix GNOME, but Helix does not (yet) provide any way of updating it...

after installing drake 7.2, I simply went and did the normal helix installation (like you would do if you didn't have gnome installed) and I was up and running with the most recent gnome in almost no time at all. good luck

Even though Helix Gnome does not provide a way to update helix gnome, Mandrake does. Its called mandrake update and, in my experience, it updates the gnome packages too.

True ... but Mandrake Update works pretty well. They are pretty quick to update packages when new versions are available or security issues are found.

Mandrake Update -- I think -- would put Helix updates in the "development updates" category. This means -- again, I think -- that you'd have to know specifically which items you want to upgrade. Not too user-friendly compared to the Helix installer since most of us don't know the actual names of all the Helix components...

Thanks.

True its not quite as user friendly as Helix Update, but it is there. I realy havent used 7.2 for that long (just installed it last night, but I'm liking it a lot)
