Hello

Could someone please explain where these files come from? (boot.b and map I mean) Ive searched everywhere and read the lilo doc. but it never explains where they come from. Its always copy /boot/boot.b and /boot/map to blah blah, but what if I dont have these files?

Thanks

you could use
locate boot.b
slocate boot.b
or
find / -name boot.b

and it'll find the file if you have it

/boot/map is created by lilo when you rerun lilo after making changes to the /etc/lilo.conf file. I'm not sure about /boot/boot.b.

My slack system doesn't use it. I've seen it in some /etc/lilo.conf's before, but I've never put it in mine..

So, I hope that gave you some answers.. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

I thought that was the other way around. I thought that map was created during the kernel setup phase.
