I have 2 pcs with mandrake 7.2. One is a server for the internet and a MUD host, other is my personal pc. I can access the server logging into the port 9999, but I can not FTP or TELNET into either one. i get the message: Cannot connect to 192.168.0.1: Connectioin refused.
I used to be able to ftp out of the server to the pc before I upgraded from mandrake 7.0 to 7.2, but now nothing. I am sure it is a simple permission setting, but as to where it is I have no clue. I have tried to log in anonymous and as a real user. Still nothing.. Please help. I have been on this for the last 5 days. Oh anyone like to mud, feel free to log into scatteredrealms.27.net port 9999 and check it out. we only have 5 players right now, so may be times no-one is loged in. Anyhow, please help!

post a netstat -vantu and an ifconfig -a and im sure someone, including myself, can help... youre just not providing us with enough info. it sounds like when you upgraded, it reset all your inetd or *d settings... :D

*hmms* ...

can access MUD but not telnet ...

ummm ... I would have said /etc/host.allow and /etc/host.deny.
even though you can connect to the mud .. this is a unique app and may have entries in the /etc/host.allow file ... therefore, verify that you are allowed to connect to the server with either FTP or TELNET in the above files ..

There's an installation bug in Mandy 7.2 that causes the telnet server to not get installed sometimes. Insert Mandy CD #1 and run RPM on the telnet-server RPM. You should be in business after that. ;)
