i'm running mandrake 8.0, on kde... i'm searching for file sharing programs. ( at gnutelliums... that's the only place i know. ) first off, none of them work. limewire says to execute the .bin file, or whatever, i tried, but there IS no .bin file. and i tried to install the updated java, and that didn't work, or it did, i'm not sure. i installed codeweavers WINe, and i try to install some windows file sharing programs, but the programs never start up ( the installation ) and i end up just killing the process by going into that one program. ( ctrl+esc). would anyone like to help me? either fix limewire or find a GOOD file sharing program/help me with WINe? ;.;

To install LimeWire download LimeWireLinux.tgz (http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireLinux.tgz)
uncompress it "tar xzf LimeWireLinux.tgz" then go to the directory and type "sh runlime.sh" or maybe even "./runlime.sh" from the LimeWire directory that was created and it will run. It's that simple. If this doesn't work then you don't have java installed.

Now to install Java in case you need to. Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre/download-linux.html
and download yourself a copy, I chose the rpm version.
When you download it you will get a file named "j2re-1_3_1-linux-i386-rpm.bin"
now type "sh j2re*bin" where you downloaded it and it will start the script. Now you will end up with a file named "jre-1.3.1.i386.rpm" just install it with the usual "rpm jre*rpm -U", now type "java -version" and if it works then it should spit out the current version. (If it doesn't then make a link to it "ln /usr/java/jre1.3.1/bin/java /usr/bin/java -s") Now Java should be correctly installed.

Hope this helps, LimeWire is a great program :)

I "installed" JRE just like you said to do it, and it got an error about creating a symbolic link in my old mozilla directory, that I forgot to delete, but other than that was fine. then I tried to do "java -version" and it said "java command not found." so I added the symbolic link just like you said, and tried java -version again. Still says java command not found. Then I redid "rpm -i (JRE wasn't installed) jre.rpm" and it says "package jre.rpm is already installed" ... ?

ORIGINAL:
one more thing... this is REDICULOUS!

this is what the terminal says:
# rpm -i jre.rpm
package jre.rpm is already installed.
# rpm -e jre.rpm
error: package jre.rpm is not installed.

???? =
EDIT:
I ran export PATH=PATH:/usr/java/jre1.3.1_03/bin

in terminal and it works... thanks though!
