Hello all first post here in the forums. I have a dilema concerning Logon Authentication and how it works with Linux. I'm currently studding to be a Network Administrator, we currently have been studying Windows 2K and the Logon Authentication process that is related to the Domain Controlers. We cannot seem to find any documentation on this process related to Linux, other than what is acomplished locally and not on a purely Linux network. Given that, even a mixed mode environment. I was wishing that you all could assist me in finding some documention on the web that would be hard evidence for my Prof.

(edit) Sorry forgot to include the distro we are using if this helps Mandrake 8.0.

I don't have a direct answer for you, but when in doubt, go to Google (http://www.google.com). A quick search using the keyphrase +"Logon Authentication" +linuxyielded some 250+ links on the subject.

Thanks DMR!

But I too have not found any information on this process. I will continue to request the knowledge of these forums to discover an answer. :(

I'm currently migrating my network (linux servers, Win2K wkstns) to logon authentication. Win2K uses KerberosV as a logon encryption method. Here is a link to the web site: http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/www/. They can communicate using DNS, Samba, OpenSSL, Cyrus-SASL, and KerberosV, with BerkeleyDB as the database (all interconnected). Next phase: OpenLDAP integration. All combined, it's roughly the same thing MS did when they came up with Advanced Server, but it's Linux, and it's better.
