I need to get my connection shared and dont know where to look for a read through on it. I can follow directions but my search has been pretty futile. Any advice ? jcrowe 02-19-2001, 06:12 PM You will need to tell your linux machine what dns servers to use and tell it to use the windows ics machine as a gateway. If this doesn't work let us know what windows and what linux versions you are using. I have done this using windows 2000 server and several differant distros of linux. jcrowe Coral Sea 02-21-2001, 02:26 AM ASSUME: 1. Windows PC connected to the Internet and running ICS. 2. Internal (LAN side) NIC with IP address 192.168.0.1 on the Windows PC. 3. Linux box with NIC IP address 192.168.0.2. 4. Gateway masks on both machines set to 255.255.255.0. THEN: 4. Ping 192.168.0.1 from a terminal window in Linux to make sure you have a connection between the two boxes. 5. Use linuxconf (launch it from the menu or a terminal window by typing linuxconf) to set the IP addresses for your ISP's DNS server(s). The path in linuxconf is Config -> Networking -> Name server specification (DNS). Enter the IP addresses in the fields "IP of name server 1", etc. You might also need to enter the search domain if your ISP uses "mail" for mail servers and "news" for news servers. Check with your ISP. 6. Go to Config -> Networking -> Routing and gateways -> Defaults in linuxconf. Enter 192.168.0.1 as the gateway. Do not enable routing. You should now be able to access the Internet from your Linux box through your Windoze gateway PC. le-leo 03-06-2001, 04:17 PM Thanks for the help. I am now crusing the net in style on a sweet little linux box. I now have managed a triple boot and all the OS' sre running on the net through another machine. Didnt realize what a chore it was. Any recoendation on where to really start learning the intricacies of linux from a nothing start? justlinux.com
