Got some newbie issues, here -- I've recently installed the current version of Slackware on an old machine (486/66, 8MB RAM,) and it doesn't want to boot correctly.

LILO seems to work, and the system goes through the hardware-detect motions, but then asks me to insert a root disk. I can get logged in by booting from a floppy, but I'm not sure what to do at that point to get the thing fixed.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

are you trying to boot from the install disk?
if you know what partition you put slack on then just put root=/dev/hdxx to point to the correct one;ie hda1,hda5,hdb1 etc
