DNS?

I have a domain name, I got it to the point that it resolves. However, how do I change what it says at my login prompt? right now it shows my IP address on my cable modem NIC. do I change the host name? and how do I set it up so that my outgoing mails will say blablah@mydomain.com? Thanks.

Let me rephrase the question a bit. When I go to compose an email on my box, and I have it set up to use my domain name. When it sends an outgoing mail, it appears as from my IP address. However, since I changed the localhost name, mail does not leave my box. In sendmail.cf I put my domain name instead of the foo.COM. Still does not work.
