Hello.....
I am new to Linux...I installed Debian running on a 2.2.17 kernel (if that's how you say it).
It took me a week to get almost everything setup with Wmaker. One thing....well that is my very optimistic view of it...my sound card. wmcdplay works greats since when I put an audio cd in it goes on.
Now I need to configurate my sound card. I think my module is not installed. I read quite a few posts here and I think you guys answer better to questions then most newsgroup in which I am also in. I never got a clear answer and most of it you got to be an experienced user.
This is my first week...almost lost fate when I tried to install vmware but then I told myself that I should wait and start from the beginning.
Thanx alot for your time

It sounds like you have done pretty well so far. Did you configure the kernel yourself or are you running the standard kernel for Debian?

If it is a standard kernel, the module is probably already there. Try the command insmod emu10k1
If that works then what you will want to do is set it up to automatically load it on boot. Pick a text editor and edit /etc/modules.conf and add the following line:
alias sound emu10k1

I am hopeing that debian set everything else up for you otherwise come on back and we will get you straightened out.

Did you look in the NHF's???? The answer is no because under 'Soundcards' there is one specifically titled 'Getting your Soundblaster to work'. It worked for me.

i went too http://opensource.creative.com , downloaded the driver and did a make and make install. worked under debian 2.1 kernel 2.2.16, 2.2.17, slackware 7.1 same kernels, and redhat 6.2 kernel 2.2.14.

I don't use Linux because I hate Windows (which I do) I use Linux because I like it.
