Mandrake 8, when I open a console I get this error as soon as it opens
bash: etc/sysconfig/system: permission denied
then I type su <enter> password promt, I enter PW, this is the error
"full size limit exceeded"
what the heck is this????

Also, when I try to run an app, that requires root PW, I put it in, the promt goes away and the app never opens????
what did I do??....lol

Yes I had that same problem in Mandrake 8.. It's that Firewall program it comes with that is locking down your system so you can't su or run programs with root unless you directly login. I hated that! I know how to fix the su, well sort of if I can remeber. there is a folder in your /home/user/ folder its like .xauth or something I can't remember I ditched Drake 8 so I can't check. just look for a hidden folder that has one HUGE log file in it . it fills it up to like 100 something megs. I just changed the group on that folder to your user 'chown user.user foldername' and then turn off the write permissions to the folder. i'm sorry I can't be more of help but I tried

Yes it is bastelle firewall that's doing it. The one in the control center is also bastelle
you can try running the bastelle config program
and try turning down your sercurity some
