setup:
printers:
HP DeskJet 560C
Epson Stylus Color 400
printserver:
HP JetDirect EX Plus3
boxen:
1 x Slackware
1 x Win2k
2 x win98
all on the ethernet in my dorm room.

basically what i need to know is how to make slackware print to either printer attached to the print server.

I have searched the forums here and @ HP as well as on the internet and looking through the HP support pages, but to no avail.

does anyone know how i could go about it? in both windows versions i made a new "local" printer port that actually pointed to the IP of the print server and used jetadmin software to tell it which port on the server to use, but as far as i know that is an option in linux so i'm lost as to what to try next.

thanks!

try WebJetAdmin for Red Hat and Suse

i know you said slack, but that is all hp has, is red hat or suse similar enough to slack that it might work?

webjetadmin is more for administering lots of servers and printers. i only have one server and i can configure it via telnet so that isn't really what i need.

in the hp forums i did get a link to info on printing to the print servers but now i find that my lpd daemon is not working right so i have a new problem. when i try to print all i get is a message saying that the lpd daemon cannot be started.

anyone know why this might be?

if anyone is interested: http://support.hp.com/showpage/cat_id/30383541/id/bpj06515.html is where you can find info about printing to jetdirect print servers from linux
