Hello,

I just upgraded KDE on my Stormix 2000 dist. to version KDE 2.01 from 1.x Everything's great except my KMenu has duplicate entries for A LOT of programs. When I go into the KMenu editor, they're only listed once. Does anyone know how to get rid of these duplicate entries? I'm sorry for the recent barage of posts I'm making. I'm just a newbie trying to find my way!

Thanks
John

I ran into the same problem but with another distro.

It seems like there is a user component and a system component to the menu. In this case, the system component is where the duplicates are(I believe). If I'm not mistaken, there should be some sort of menu directory in /etc where some of these are stored. In terms of KDE, these should be in a directory called applnk(I believe as well but I'm not at a linux box so I'm not sure)

I found that if you delete kde 1.1.2 and then install kde2, there are much less headaches.

Why don'y you try to delete the .kde and Desktop folders in your home directory and see if that helps as well.

I wish I could provide more detailed instructions but since there weren't any others, I guess these are better than nothing.

Good Luck!

I had the same thing happen, except I had 4 of each thing...

This may not be the only way, or the easiest, but it worked for me:
1) Uninstall KDE2.0 (I compiled, so I just did "make uninstall" for each of the packages.
2) Uninstall KDE1.x
3) Reinstall KDE2.0 (again I compiled. I never could get RPMs to work right)
4) Enjoy KDE2.0

I have the same problem geoff-b had where there are four of everything, but only when I log in as root. My user has a perfectly normal menu.

Any way I can correct the root menu without reinstalling KDE2?
