Okay, I am probably the biggest newbie around. I just downloaded Phat Linux and somehow managed to get it installed. Now, I have an ADSL connection (that works fine). Please tell me what I need to find out/do to set it up in Linux! I would REALLY appreciate any help you can give.

I used Mandrake 7 and now Suse 7 and both were rather easy. I set up my DSL in both of them for DHCP(automatic IP assignment). Thats how my ISP works. Depnding on what network card you have in may need support for linux. I use 3com and have had no problems so for. Good Luck http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Does your ADSL provider require you to use pppoe? If so, go out to Roaring Penguin and get their software. It's very easy to set up.

If you do use PPPoE, set up you NIC card with a static address and PPPoE will grab the dynamic address for your connection. At least that's the way SuSE 7.0 worked for me. I couldn't get it set up until I turned DHCP off as described above.

Definately grab rp-pppoe.
