Remapping Key Combos?

I was wondering how I could remap keys or key combinations. For example, the key combo CTRL-\ causes a lot of my applications to quit suddenly, and it's irritating when I accidentally hit CTRL-\ instead of CTRL-ENTER in this one program I work with.

I noticed that CTRL-\ has this affect on a lot of programs I work with... Is there any way that I can map it to something else, preferably something that won't make my app quit without warning?
