I have been trying to upgrade from mandrake 7.1 to 7.2 (see my problems with the network in technical support forum)and I was shocked by the default size of the expert installation. 7.1, under expert install, usually picked about 1500 megabytes worth of packages that it thought you should install (using both the install and extension CDs), of which you could then pick and choose. Now the default size of 7.2 is over 2500 megabytes!! This is because 7.2 thinks you should install many more packages then 7.1 did. I would prefer a less robust installation (man on the programs are crap), however I really have no idea when it comes with to the development packages as to which ones are necessary and which ones are for people who really develope software. I just want to be able to compile my tarballs with no problems, but I doubt that I need every last package in that section. For example, there is compiler called somthing like the great "some city/country name that starts with a G that I can't remember" Haskill (or some name like that that start with an H) Compiler. I have no idea weather this is some obscure compiler wasting 45megabytes on my machine or weather it is necessary for compiling my kernel.

Any suggestions?
