I didn't get sound to work in KDE2 although it worked perfectly in GNOME. I played around a bit with the KDE2 control center.
Now that I have restarted my computer and have issued a modprobe -c it segfaults just before it comes to the sound stuff. Looking at my /etc/modules.conf I see the error (alias char-major-116-snd instead of
alias char-major-116 snd). After having corrected this I issue a modprobe -c again and it quits normally, w\o segfaults. I know modprobe -c didn't segfault before I played arounf with the sound in the control center in KDE2 so I'd like to know if KDE2 can modify my modules.conf. I'd say no, but the fact that it _has_ been changed makes me wonder [I[what[/I] could've changed it. Any ideas?

I'd be willing to bet that KDE changed some things.

KDE2 can only write to stuff in /etc if you were running it as root. If you were not, then it wouldn't have the necessary permissions.
