I have two computers, one slack7.1 one windoze9x, I have internet access via shared t1 ethernet style. it's a wired apartment complex thingy. the ips are dynamically assigned.

If I just get a network hub I should be able to get all of my computers online sharing the connection shouldn't I?

since the ips are dynamically assigned each of my computers should be able to find a unique ip addy right? i won't need a router or anything will I?

I hope to use the slackbox as a webserver

Thanks for any info you can give me!

If everything is done via DHCP, then using a hub should do it for ya. Unless there is some sort of sneaky security, like using MAC addresses to id which cards are allowed.

You will want to go from the provided jack to the uplink port on the hub/switch, and then plug the machines into the regular ports on the hub/switch.

I have heard from other people that the way it is done is via a computer that will be the 'gateway'. That comptuer goes into the wall with 2 nics, and the other nic plugs into the hub and you go from there.

From this it sounds like the hub goes into the wall and the comps just go into the hub. that sounds good. I like that better http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

I'll see what I can see.

Any hardware recomendations?
