Right now I'm having some problems with my Squid proxy server. More correctly, my Windows 2000 client. While everything serverside seems to be up and running, I can't seem to get my client online. If anyone here has successfully gotten a Win2k machine to proxy correctly, I would like to know how you did it. Thanks.
More system info- Linux distro: Mandrake 7.1, Squid 2.4STABLE, 10Mbps ethernet network
Client info- OS: Windows 2000, ServicePack 1, IE 5.5, NS 4.75, various servers (Apache 1.2.12 & GFTPD 0.972) 10Mbps pingable working network

i do hv a W2k, WinNT laptop conntected to internet thro Linux RH 6.2 configured as Proxy and firewall. You dont need to make any modification on the client pcs. just enter your proxy IP address on the client browser and that shd work fine. if you want to provide ftp, telnet etc access then you hv to configure ipchains.
BTW about couple of weeks ago i posted firewall and proxy scripts on the subject Transparent proxy. search for it and you can use the same.

this is from w2k pro (IE 5.5) through squid 2.2.STABLE4 port 3128 on rd 6.1
i find it will occasionally (seems to be happening less the longer i use it) "mess up" for lack of a better description. can't connect to anything on web. i found that if i do ipconfig /renew, it fixes it. don't know why.
are you trying to use the right port?

Yes, my ports are correct. Half the time I can't ping besides. what's up with that? Even allowing all in IPChains doesn't always do the trick.

if u cant ping win2k box then it seems to a network problem. try to find what is causing this. prbly the way u hv defined the network. check once again the Ipaddress / subnet mask, which card is connected to network, cable condition etc. it may be a faulty card in the network which is causing unwanted traffic. try to remove all other m/c and try to ping win2k box. i think once u r able to locate this then other stuff shd b easy.

Alrighty than! This is a biotch. It'll be great when Mandrake 7.2 comes out, as it has easy setup for this type of thing. Even better will be when this is a 'NIX planet ;-)
