Hey all!

Well, I was wondering...

I've got this monitor problem (namely, my monitor isn't recognized by linux [using Drake 7.2] under any settings I choose [be it custom or generic or whatever] http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif )

So do you think that compiling Kernel 2.4.0-test10 will help that situation any? I've heard that it is supposed to recognize a lot more hardware... also, will installing this create any problems with my 'Drake software I've installed? (I did the full install)

Thanks all

Bill

The answer to this is a definate NO. Your monitor problem has nothing to do with your kernel version. What you need to do is edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config file and change the vertical and horizontal refresh rates to match your monitor. Check the manufacturer's web site for this information, if you can't find anything there you can try http://www.monitorexpress.com and look in their catalog, they have the monitor specs for a whole slew of monitors.

Good luck and have fun.

I see... I'm definitly going to try that tonight http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

<curiosity>

Well... were I to recompile the kernel anyways, how would I go about doing that? Could you point me to a good NHF? and would it mess up what I have going already with my installation?

</curiosity>

I'm really new, and still don't know all that goes into a new kernel.. any help to rid myself of WinBeast would be great

Thanks,
Bill

Here is a good site to help you compile and configure a kernel:
