Ok I have done this before and do not have a clue what I did to make it work. The Win 98 box has the modem. I assigned trudy as the name of the box and hiteksurplus as the name of the workgroup. I assigned 192.168.0.1 as ip address.
On the linux box (RH7.2 KDE)I assined 192.168.0.2 as ip. I am confused about what to put for host name i tried bill.hiteksurplus to no avail. I am also not positive i am entering it in the right place. I tried to ping......timed out.
HELP HELP HELP  I put my ISP's DNS in the boxes for DNS, not sure if they even need to be there. Can someone help me set this up? Thanks in advance.

I think you have to share the connection first, then the inbox should be availaible through dhcp...???
At least this worked for me on my w2k machine.

If you have 98se you will need to set up ics then set your up your gateway on the lin box to 192.168.0.1....and you may also need to setup the dns in linuxconf or whatever redhat has ...or edit or make your own /etc/resolve.conf files with lines like these
nameserver 64.64.64.4
nameserver 64.64.64.1
but edit with your own dns numbers

Sometimes even configuring ICS on the W98 machine will not give you the gateway for your linux box (I ran into some problems like that sometime ago)
the best solution I found was d/l Analog Proxy (Analog Proxy (http://www.analog.com))
it's a small software that gives great solutions, only it cannot run socks 5 meaning ICQ.
Keep me posted.

Ok it's done and working fine. I went to this website and downloaded their proxy. It took all of 5 minutes to set it up and both boxes are surfing fine. Thanks for the ideas!
