Ok. I have an old comp that I will eventually set up as a Linux firewall/router. All the other computers in the house are running windows. Since people using them don't exactly want to have to telnet in, is there a way I can set the lan up so that they can signal the router to dial out and then signal it wto disconnect again? I am running Debian 2.2 to do this.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have to know, what kind of connection have you got? After that I think I can point you in the right direction.

I have a dialup PPP connection. I want users to be able to signal the box to dial up and signal it to disconnect without having to telnet as they don't want and don't know command line in DOS or Linux.

I don't know if it's possible to script telnet, but if you could write a batch file or something similar that would do the telnetting in and all...that'd keep their hands clean and get them on the net. Hmmm. Or. I wonder if it's possible to run a shell script through Samba (like, run a shell script on the linux box, but the directory the script is in is on a SMB share. I'm none too experienced here...
Hope this helps!

Hi, there.
Check out the ip-masquerade how-to at http://ipmasq.cjb.net/
I believe it's in section 6.7 it shows some dial-on-demand.
hope to have helped... :)
