Hi all, got two questions for y'all.

First question is, I have the choice of using sendmail or qmail for a
company. We're on RH 6.2, and we are about 5,000 email accounts big. Would
you guys recommend sendmail or qmail? I'm assuming RH has no issues with
either of the two, but if it does . . .

Secondly, I'm looking for a good book on sendmail and/or qmail. I'm reading
through the O'reilly Bat book, and its more of a reference as opposed to a
how-to, which is what I really need. This is my first time admining an email
server of any kind, so a tutorial would be nice. Thanks ahead of time, and Happy Holidays.

I personally like Exim, but really, a mail server is a mail server... they all have basically the same set of features. If qmail looks good for you, go for it. I think Exim and Qmail are quite similar, so therefore you have my permission to use it.

Postfix is really good. I'd suggest you take a look at it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAH
thats great.
i use Qmail and love it. but then i also run a webserver with virtual domains and need a secure SMTP server.

i havent used anything else, but Qmail + vpopmail was a lot easier to setup for MY needs (virtual domain email), than exim.

Qmail also requires working reverse DNS on your machine (bind).

I'd go with Qmail and vpopmail for your solution.

this is the script i used to setup Qmail (WORKS EXCELENT !) http://www.inter7.com/vpopmail/Qmail-FreeBSD.txt

i just changed a few things (using redhat 6.1) to work with my system, and left out things i didnt use. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

get http://www.inter7.com/vpopmail/ <-there

for vpopmail configure and a single domain,
use
--enable-default-domain=domain.com

it may seem like a ***** to get it working at first, but when it does is a glorious thing..

kind of like women.
sendmail is the cheap herion whore down the street, got more holes in her than anything and is free.

other SMTP servers are kind of like your average nympho. still a challange to get her to notice you over the next guy, but once you get it right you've scored.

Qmail, however, is like the rich prissy catholic girl.
its god damn hard as all hell to get it, but once you do its the best thing in the world
:x

Ye gads, they're just bloody SMTP servers!

((Exim supports IPV6. Does YOUR MTA support IPV6? What? What's that? Your MTA DOESN'T support IPV6. Why, that's very interesting. Did I mention that Exim supports IPV6?))
