My linux server has a publc share on it. the Windows system "scott" can acces it, bev cannot. Transfers used to be fine, but then a transfer had an error and now when I transfer to linux it is real slow *as in 4000 minutes over a 1mb network). The internet is a normal speed for scott & bev. hoewever booting up is slow for scott (just before network log on)
As well I can no longer FTP to the server (as I used to be able too) the transfer rate is 0.85k/s
Help please.

*uuuummmmms*
I looked at this post last night and it confused me then tooo...
Arisen, you need to be more precise in your descriptions.
From the description here you could have from 1 to 4 separate problems.
A) precisely what issues are you asking about
B) what is the network information for all machines.
C) What are the details of the samba setup on the network

connection from windows to linux box is extremely slow for file connections.
only one machine has a connection to that public DIR on the server.
network config:
CABLE internet --- |eth1(DHCP) Pmfirewall:redhat 7:eth0(192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0)|---hub
hub---|scot (win 98se, 192.168.1.2)|
hub---|bev (win 98se, 192.168.1.3)|
both users have samba access.

this gets weorder :(
if scott gets rebooted it can access the public share and browse both win and linux shares thru net. neighborhood. when a file needs to be overwritten, the connection ends and scott can no lonnger can see anything on the network neighborhood or map the share.
