I have a SMC (Realtek) PCI card for my eth0 external network, and I used to have an old Dlink DE100 8bit card for my eth1 masq internal network. The eth1 was working perfectly before I took it out and put a new SURECOM (Realtek) PCI card in.
I edited the /etc/modules.conf file & used linuxconf to set up the new nic.

Here is my modules.conf file:

alias eth0 ne2k-pci
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
alias sound-slot-0 emu10k1
alias eth1 ne2k-pci

The problem is, that the Windows client can ping the gateway (eth1 192.168.0.1) but cannot ping the outside.

I haven't changed any network settings except the options of the new nic.
I am using pmfirewall & even reinstalled it to see if it made any difference.
If you know of anything that may be wrong, please reply. Thanks.

Thanks anyway, I found that the nic wasn't working, so I got a new nic.
Works perfect now. :D
