I just got a new motherboard/processor that is more than 4x faster than my old one. The new motherboard has an AGP slot, and I just happened to have an AGP card available to try (okay, it's a voodoo so I'll be trying it in windows first, but still). Here's the problem: I don't get a signal at all to the card. The computer boots okay, I can hear it do everything it should, and if I put the other card in there I could switch the monitor cable and watch it continue to boot. I have all the settings in the bios switched over so it should check for the AGP card first. I even read through the booklet for the card and the one for motherboard (in other words, I RTFM'd :D ) The only thing I can think of now is that it's an AGP 2x card but it's an AGP 4x port, but I can still set the port to act like a 2x in the bios and nothing happens. I'm at work and I forgot the motherboard model so I'll have to look it up when I get home, but I know it's an Abit K7 something: i think k7cva??? motherboard.

well, the card should work. if you have a 4x AGP slot, it should work with 1x, 2x, and 4x AGP cards. so i don't know what could be wrong. one thing though: is the card seated properly in the slot? maybe it's not in all the way, or slipping out a bit when you turn the computer upright? i would check those things. sorry i can't be more useful.

The card sits in the slot great: not too tight, not too loose, and it goes in all the way. One thing I am curious about: the slot is made up of one continuous place for the card, and most agp cards I've seen (including this one) go in the slot in two different places, with a space between them. I thought there would be a spacer in the slot that matched the gap...

You can switch video cards, rehookup the cable and watch it continue to boot. Hotswapable has really improved.
Oh I see now. You have a pci video card already seated in the slot and you just switch the cable.
The Abit KT7A? It should first try the video card in the AGP slot. Have you tried the AGP card in another PC? Must be something wrong with it.
