Hi All,
This is a real puzzle to me...First I have three Linux distros that have the very same problem..Two MDK 7.1 and one MDK 7.2..
Heres the problem..When first installed, all versions picked up my cable modem and ethernet card without a hitch and Netscape worked flawless(well as good as
possible)..One is a dual booter with win98 and the other two are stand alone drives..About a week or so later, all versions of Linux are now so slow I can't even load my
home page.(win98 is fine).I went into Drake config and looked at my network configuration numbers but frankly I have no Idea what to look for..I suspect that my DNS was
changed dynamically but what do I have to do to reconfigure it?I tried to compare windows WINIPCFG numbers but they appear to be correct..
Any help would be appreciated..TIA..
JP
PS I can supply details and my Provider is "tampabay.rr.com"

Just a theory, but try deleting the ~/.netscape/cache directory.

I wouldn't stop with just .netscape but dump it all for the 10/30 build of Mozilla. Runs practically on par with IE. Kinda funny cuz anything later doesn't run at all and anythign before is too slow.

Then again, there's always Galeon.

Galeon has the pretty rendering without the bloat. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi again,
Do you all think Netscape went bad or was it the network configuration?

Hi,
It's solved!!! For the benefit of others with a similar problem heres what happened..Tampabay.rr.com changed it's
ethernet card IP address as well as the default gateway address..Windows picked it up whereas Mandrake 7.1 did not..
Since I had the numbers recorded from the initial WINIPCFG
settings and compared them to the present ones I was able to manually change them. Thus it looks as though I have to do this everytime Road runner changes things..I wonder why
Linux did not pick up the change? Any Ideas?

It sounds like you set up Mandrake statically, i.e. you manually entered the dns entries instead of letting linux poll them.

SHAD,
How do you let Mandrake poll them?

I'm not sure just put in DHCP and not enter anything?

Tonight seems like a popular night for mandrake indeed. I recommend running your own name server. You can find RPM's for bind, very easy to setup. Search for bind or named. If you did a full install with mandrake, all you need to do is type in console: named
