I can't log-in as root in Redhat 6.1/Gnome. When I log-in using the correct password, the machine hangs after giving me the "You are logging-in as root" message.

I can log-in as a regular user, but root makes the machine hang.

The problem occurred after I booted this morning and my cable modem wouldn't respond.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. But, please type slowly and use monosyllabic words. I'm an 'ubernewbie', and get easily confused.

Thanks,
PH
