No, I'm not really leaving ( though I might not be posting as much). I just wanted to say thank you in the spirit of the Season. And the title seem very applicable to all the penguinistas out there. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

So what is the thank you for and why is it in the How I did it section?

For all the posts that I have learned something from. Whether it was someone asking something I did not know about, or actually given any thought to, to those that replied and showed how to do something, or even better a new way to do something.

My suggestion is for those that haven't realized this yet, but read the other threads, even if you have no inclination to do what ever the thread is about. A thread on Filesystems, just might have some usefull info that relates to your usb mouse problem.

There are a lot of knowledgeble people here from many walks of life. We come here to find solutions to are problems with Linux, but several of us keep coming back to help out the rest of us. Take advantage of the gift of knowledge.

And one final word, let us know how things turn out and give a word of thanks. I know I am guilty of this one too, but it is nice to know the y suggestion did indeed fix x problem.

PS leave a note here so that it will draw others attention to it as well, please.

I read a comment on every thread that even remotely catches my interest in the programming forum for just this reason. There's usually something of some interest. The same goes for the hardware forum - I know that debugging hardware problems under Linux for a newbie can be frustrating until you get used to the way things work. (Debugging hardware problems under ANYTHING can be frustrating, for that matter...)

I agree, getting any sort of hardware to work is very hard, no matter what it is.

It's very interesting how after I struggled for a long time to get my ethernet card working and x working, I would not want so hard to get my sound card working. Yet I actually downloaded and compiled a new kernel for just that reason.

yes I would like to thank the people here too.

just from reading posts, I have been able to learn about linux, something which for some reason seems very difficult for me.

I am very good with M$ and computers, but linux.... is a challenge to learn.

if anyone wishes to contact me, please do so by my email. I am just don't re-read posts too often. thanks.

blackwolf_c - Required reading, IMHO, are the User's and System Administrator's guides from Linuxdoc.org. Both are a bit dated, but they provide a good overview of the basic concepts.

You all are great.

This has become my most valuable source of information. In previous years when I have installed linux, I normally went back to windows in a couple of weeks because of the problems it caused me. I searched the internet for solutions, and even tried going into chat rooms (which is fruitless).

The value contained in these posts is overwhelmingly helpful. Everyone who posts here is providing a teriffic service to people like me. Keep up the good work.

By the way, that is a great series of books. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
