I while ago, I posted a question about setting up linux such that the console came up on a serial port. Well, I figured out how to do it. It is pretty easy acutally

You will have to rebuild the kernel. In make xconfig, click on General setup, make sure "Console on a serial port" is on. The make sure LiLo passes the paramater "console=ttySX" according to the port you want it on (default is ttyS0). Easy as that!!!

good luck!!!

Right, but what runs on the console machine? What hardware is needed?

I have a 486sx33 laptop with a 16 color monitor, 4mb of ram, and a 300mb drive. While I have managed to get Slackware 7.1 on it, it is just too slow to do anything - even use bash and telnet into my real machine.
