I just recently got cable service through Charter Pipeline out here in Southern California. the hardware that was provided to me included a Linksys 10/100 usb network adapter. The drivers for the adapter were Winblows only. I was also running kernel 2.2.14 in Mandrake 7.0...well, to my dissapointment(sp?) usb support was not included in this kernel...on top of that, no drivers were ever made for linux on this adapter(probably for this very reason.) So, to make a long story short, I went to ftp.kernel.org and got kernel 2.4.0...it compiled flawlessly! I rebooted the computer....(fingers crossed)voila!!!! the network adapter was recognized immediately, and with it, the pegasus.c drivers were loaded automatically at boot!(btw, pegasus is the chipset used in the usb network adapter). after starting up, i then installed dhcpcd (included as an rpm on the mandrake cd), disabled anything unwanted (ftp, telnet, etc), and called up the network adapter (ifup eth0)
and I was on the net in no time flat! (and they told me linux was not an option with their hardware the provided for me)!
