I was initially having lots of problem installing Linux alongwith Win'98 e.g.
after booting, instead of LILO, it was showing "LI" only. After much effort, I got to know(thanks to linuxnewbie.org) that a hard disk size of>8GB causes such problem with LILO.
So I had the option to either use "Loadlin" or try with a new partition.
I made a new 2GB partition within the first 8GB limit and followed the regular installation procedure. It solved the problem. And I have my Red Hat Linux 6.2 running smoothly.
Thanks to all who helped me.

Debian doesn't have that limitation. It's version of LILO is updated!

Yes, the version of LILO and the default kernel shipped with RH6.2 seem to have a LOT of problems associated with them. See the various threads regarding AMD processors in the hardware board. But its still a good idea to put all your bootable partitions early on in the drive.
