I really want to install Debian, but I hate picking the individual packages! The simple install method is just aweful because it leaves so much out, and I hate having to worry about dependencies (im a slacker). Is there any quick way I can just select all the packages (except maybe the oldlibs) and have them all install without asking me all the dumb questions? I like Debian. I hate setting it up.

you don't have to worry about dependcies with debian. as for picking out packages, i don't know if there is a simple way to select just what you want, besides picking out just the pacakges.

I like Debian too but use Mandrake do to the ready to go desktop. (Corel is going, Storm is notready in my opinion which both run on Debian) Anyone. I would be supprised that after you do the install the non-slacker :-) way then you should be able to make an autoinstall floppy. Mandrake has one and Redhat too called KICKER I think and SUSE has one so I will be suprised if Debian does not have one somewhere. They seem to have the most choices when it comes to software.
Anyway hope it works out and if done once you may be set for awhile. Otherwise I am not sure off the bat how to get it done on the 1st install.

I'm talking about in dselect when you choose a package, it asks you to select all the other packages that it requires.
Can i just apt-get * from the packages on the cdrom?

You could probably do a dpkg --install on all the packages on the CD-ROM if you wanted... but that's quite a bit of unnecessary crap, and a lot of it conflicts. It takes about 30-45 minutes to actually go through and do all the selection of packages, but once you do that, you are set. I'd recommend that you just suck it up and do it http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

Umm.....first u can apt-get from the cdrom
run apt-cdtool i think....
Secondly, were obviously on different planets when it comes to dselect because it work out my dep problems for me.
Select a package, like windowmaker, then if you dont have all it needs, a red dependacy screen pops up, and it has a list of stuff. These will be installed BY DEFAULT. See how they have a little _+ next to their name? that means they are going to be installed. If they arent, just go down the list pressing the shift = key (+).
when you done press enter
