I'm trying to install 4.0 on a box, and everything runs great during the install ... but afterwards it can't boot any kernels. I can see the kernels (both kernel and kernel.GENERIC) but can't get either to boot. Any ideas?

Not a clue, ask in #freebsdhelp on any EFnet IRC server.

what kind of errors are you getting? Is it hanging? Did you ever run a version of FreeBSD prior to this install on that particular box? need more info...

OK, I've gotten FreeBSD 4.1 to work with no problems before on the same box. The reason I'm putting 4.0 on it is because I have the powerpack and decided to just patch it up after the install.

The error it is giving is no /boot/loader .. and if I try to boot a kernel it says it can't find /kernel or /kernel.GENERIC (even though I can see it in the root dir).

Again the installation goes fine, no errors, every package, from what the instalation said, went transfered fine. I did the X-User install.

Thanks :-)

I suggest you to reinstall 4.1.1 from scratch. BTW, what "powerpack"? Is it necessary?

No problem, thanks for the help. The powerpack is a purchased package that you can buy from freebsdmall or from stores (has like 10 FreeBSD CD's). The reinstallation of 4.0 didn't work but I went ahead and put 4.1 on and it went on fine.
