changing user properties

I have a user but with no groups and access to xwindows.

I would like to edit groups what groups do i add to access X and www and mail and ftp and IRC.

I am running this as a single user system and want to have some security above my firewall.

From what I remember, you must add your user to the wheel group in order to su to root and probably to run the stuff you mentioned.

When you add a user, it asks what group to add the user to by default, then it asks if you want to add it to other groups, this is where you type in 'wheel' and continue adding the user with the other info.
