You really should just cvsup and make a new world. It's easier and better than upgrading via an iso.

how do I do that?
I'm new to FreeBSD, and I haven't quite gotten around to figuring everything out... :(

Have you heard about the Book of the Hand (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook/current-stable.html)?

i might like 4.3 better if X worked. my 4.1 was install was shot to hell awhile ago, so i got the new ISO and installed it exactly the same as i have 4.1 (i've installed it like 14 times if you include helping friends), and this time x just decided it doesn't want to work. i don't have the time to fsck with it right now, but i'll get back to it sometime next week.

really? I got X working in 2 seconds :)
Of course, I did see that X 3.3.6 was an option, so i played it safe and stuck with that....

XFree 4.0.2 or higher is the only option for me, I have an ati Radeon 64Meg DDR VIVO. I finally have the image downloaded so I will give it a go tonight and see what happens. I remembered installing XFree 4.0.2 on 4.2 was a bear. I learned to make an image of the install before attempting installing XFree, makes it much easier to recover from my mistakes. This time I will remember to record my steps because I discovered that XFree will only work correctly if I follow certain steps.

I have a Voodoo3 card... whatever version of X I choose, it should be a snap to get it up and running :D
