I had experience of Solaris as a user on Sparc workstations and currently running linux on my two PCs at home. But I am still reluctant to install the CDs set of Solaris 8 for Intel. The reasons:

1. It may be difficult to install, it may hurt other OSes.

2. The support for intel Solaris is very light.

3. The peripheral hardwares support isn't clear and perhaps I will run into some unsolvable problems ( video, printing, sound ...).

4. I don't mind downloading new softwares, but are they available for the intel version?

Is there anybody who would say otherwise?

If you don't mind spending $85, go right ahead...

I scored a free copy of Solaris 8 (bunches of CD's http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif at the ALS about a month ago(?) and I tried to fire it up and install. Well, when it booted into the isntall, it said it would have to demolish my first HD to make room. The fightening message scared me off. Its ok though, I will have to wait until I get my 40GB ATA66 7200RPM HD in a few weeks (its only $169 at Best Buy !!!!) http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
