OK so I've just finished installing what I thought was the latest kernel and now find that there is a security flaw and that I need to update. np. Except I don't know what to do .
At the LinuxPPC.org home they talk about the security hole and have binaries to download. No explanation which ones I need. I guess this is my question of all the binaries which one(s) do I download and install? Actually once downloaded how do I install?

I've got a "new world" powerbook, with LinuxPPC 2000 Q4. So which one of the listed .rpm's do I need? So far I've just downloaded kernel-pmac-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm but I really don't know what to do with it except I'm suppose to compile it and even then I'm not sure if I suppose to do that.

kernel-BOOT-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-chrp-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-doc-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-headers-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-pcmcia-cs-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-pmac-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-prep-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-smp-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-source-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm
kernel-utils-2.2.18-5.ppc.rpm

Well this is the first of many questions I have. I hope this is a good place to find answers.

Check out the NHF about it at: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/compiling/kernel_update.html

That might help.

Thx I've checked that out and it's helpful to a point. I really want Mac specific answers but that might be asking to much.

I guess I'll look around and try to find out what an RPM is.

I'll be back, if this seems like a good place for answers.

You might also try sites:LinuxPPC.org (http://www.linuppc.org) or Linuxppc.com (http://linuxppc.com). The mailing lists there might have more specific info.
BTW, an *.RPM is a 'R)edhat P)ackage M)anager' file. It's a fairly common format for install files in Linux. *.DEB)ian is another.
