Downloaded kernal 2.4.0 and did the
following:
login GNOME as 'user'
1. extract tarball:
tar xvzf f /home/username/linux-2.4.0.tar.gz
(fine)
2. cd /home/username/linux
(fine)
3. make mrproper
(fine)
4. make oldconfig (I used 'old' as recommended in the ReadMe file for those who don't really know the answers
to alot of the config questions)
--fine, again
5.make dep
(fine)
6. su (it was time to install and that can
only be done as 'root')
(fine)
7.password
(fine)
10. made zImage (bzImage would not
work and it stated in the ReadMe that
zImage should be used as a last resort
if bzImage doesn't work)
--All went well until the end of the processing when and Error 2 showed at
the very end of the process.
--I looked in .../linux/arch/ppc...and could
not find the new kernal 'zImage'.
I also looked where the PC people would
go and no luck.
I am one month now with linux ppc and love it. I don't need to go to kernal 2.4--
I wanted to because I want the process
of learning more about how linux works.
I'm coming from a homeUser background with
MacOS only.
I hope the hints help someone else and
that someone else may have a better understanding of what went wrong.
