I have a Mac G3 that I want to convert to Linux. I know of three flavors of Linux for PPC's: YellowDog, SuSe, and LinuxPPC.

Are there others available, and which one would be better for a Linux newbie?

Thanks,
Joe Mason

There are two others I can think of right now; MKLinux and Rock Linux. MKLinux is primarilly intended for the old 68k macs, so you don't need it for any real reason. And I'm not even sure if Rock Linux is Non Beta/Stable. Check out www.linuxppc.org (http://www.linuxppc.org) for all your Linux on the PPC needs. You could also consider BSD, but as you mentioned your more of a newbie, I'd suggest linux ppc's 2000 Q4. It has a free partioner that dosen't destroy data, a graphical installer, rpm, and I've had good expirence with it. Next choices are the afore mentioned SuSE and Debian. Its your call, and I hope you have fun in the world that is linux.

not to be a heretic, but if you have a yosemite G3 (ie, it's blue) you should give os x a spin. there are even x servers for it if you really need that x app....
