Last spring, I took LinuxPPC to a man in Mexico City. I just got a mail from him stating that when he installed helixgnome, mp3 runs hyper fast. I know little about Mac's, and sure don't even know what is helixgnome. But, I thought I'd post the problem for him, and see if anyone has any ideas, which I will then pass on to him.

Thanks in any case.

Oh, by the way, he did say Navigator works okay on the net, but it 'blows up' a lot. Bet that's not news to anyone, based on comments on the Intel forums.

Helixgnome is a distribution of the gnome desktop manager. I installed it on my Mandrake 7 system, and it has been crashing for no apparent reason. It appears to be buggy (at least for that version of it). Here is their website: http://www.helixcode.com/. I don't know anything about mp3s playing back too fast, but I imagine its a problem with the helix distribution (a shame, because the helix desktop is soooo nice :^] ).

I got a note from my buddy in Mexico City. He finally solved the fast MP3 problem. I am pasting the note, except for personal stuff, so you can read it yourself. His English is much better than my Spanish.

"Hello Mr Bruce: Thanks for give me an answer... yesterday i solve the
problem... configuring the hardware system... and the master management
sound...now the xmms works absolutely good... but now the screen saver canīt
start...jajajajajaja... now Iīm knowing better the linux ppc...so ahope solve
this little fail to... have a good time and take care..."

Tell him to turn off Java in Netscape, and to put the disk cache to zero. N4.7.3 runs reasonably well for me, and so does M18.

I will pass it on. Thanks a lot!
