When the system boots and I login (KDE 2.1), the system freezes up either at the "Initializing Resources" phase (blue screen showing keyboard and mouse etc...) or when the "tips" screen shows (I click on the close button) I end up having to reset the machine. Here's the hardware configuration:

Hardware:

Soyo MB SY-5EHM V1.0
Processor: AMD K6-3D 400MHz
Memory: 128MB PC100 SDRAM
Video: 3DLabs Permedia 2 (Generic) - 8MB video Memory
Monitor: IBM 2124 horiz Sync - 30-50, Vert sync 50-120 (approx)
Sound Card: OPL3A
Mouse: Logitech 3 button (middle is a wheel)
No NIC
Modem: US Robotics Win INT 56K fax/data

System Configuration: - Dual boot - LILO
both HDD's are on IDE 1
One 30gb HDD with 4 partitions set at FAT32 (windoze) - set at MASTER
Runs Windows ME

One 8.3gb HDD with LINUX partitions: - Secondary to master
/ - 2400 MB
/usr - 3000 MB
/home - 1500 MB
/boot - 32 MB
/var - 1000MB
<swap> 500 MB (I need this for Oracle)

CD's are on IDE 2
Kenwood CD-ROM 72x (master)
Smart & Friendly CD-RW - (Secondary)
