Hello,
I was checking over the Debian FTP and I noticed a few new things. They now have a distribution called "testing" which is in-between stable and unstable. I am now a little bit confused over which Debian distribution is what. Is sid now unstable, and woody testing? That's what I think it may be.
I don't currently use Debian, but I'm considering it, especially considering that there is a "testing" distribution that's fairly up-to-date with less bugs.

I'm not sure, but I think it might be worth the wait to hold tight for 'frozen' unless you feel adventurous. woody has not been kind to me http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

Actually, I know Debian is in the process of organizing the whole tree.
While I'm not sure how it will all play out, I know there will be a "pool" directory that may include things from main and contrib... testing, I think, may be like the experimental tree but don't know...
My point is, I would hold off for a little bit since they are being very deliberate on how to make the transitions. So any major overhauls done right now may end up with some pretty broken packages.
My $.02.

Coldpack,
Do you understand this whole 'package pool' thing? If so, could you explain it to me? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif I've seen a couple explanations, but it isn't really clicking yet... seems like they might have a 'security' or 'firewall' pool, and tracking that 'pool' would get you installed and kept up-to-date (Debian-wise) for a firewall machine? Or am I totally out to lunch here?

No, I haven't really had time to sort through it. I check in on the debian-user and debian-devel lists to see (you can access those through the debian site) and there's talk about how there trying to reorganize it.
So, no, sorry, I don't really "get it" yet but I will try to make more snse of it in the coming days (just very busy at work and home right now).
If anyone else knows please add to this.
