Right. I've seen this posted for various distros...I've searched high and low...but no answer.
Q: I upgraded Gnome using Helix auto-update, and everything went wonderfully. Exiting back to the login Manager (in Mandrake 7.2), there's suddenly no Gnome option. How - either through KDE or another WM - can I insert this option again?
But wait, there's more: I've seen people post how you can go into the Control Panel in KDE, goto System/Log-In Manager and enter "Gnome-session". However, this doesn't mean anything...all it does is put a phrase that X can't recognize (ie "Gnome-session") into the drop-down box in the Log-In Manager. When I choose this option, it goes to Icewm.
What I can't seem to find is the bridge between just typing the phrase "Gnome-session" and the Log-In Manager actually knowing (through some sort of config file) that this is supposed to go to usr/bin/gnome-session.
Also: tried creating a file in my home folder called .xinitrc, as well as .xsession (as per previous suggestions to similar questions). No luck.
If anyone can solve this puzzle, I'd be one grateful penguin-hugger.
Thanks in advance,
Matt C.
