i'm trying out enlightenment and have already hit a problem. left clicking on the desktop does not give me a desktop menu with programs to run like it should.
any idea how to bring it back. i'm using x4.02, and a microsoft intellimouse explorer (little red light mouse)

It is setup on the first button and the middle button by default.
The middle button is actually the wheel/button.
One thing I discovered real quickly is to hit the middle button and select help. They have excellent documentation on howto use enlightenment.
I am still in the process of getting it totally down myself.
Good luck.

When you first use E, you should get a pop up windows saying that menus are being generated. If you didn't, then middle click to open the middle menu, go into maintenance menu and there should be an option to regenerate menus, click that and wait for the menus to finish ( you'll get another pop up window when done ).

Are you running mandrake 7.2?
If so e-mail them and tell them to not **** around with enlightenment!!!
Why?
LM disabled the menus.
I can't remember the details but there is a config file that has that option disable.
It in /usr/share/.....somthing i think.
If you search on this board you should find a relevant thread.
Sorry for being so vague but I hope I get you on your way somehow.

/usr/share/enlightenment/config/menu.cfg
not sure what line it is, but searching for "Regenerate Menus" should find it.
uncomment it (remove the /* */ ),
looking through the file also finds some other cool things http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

ick mandrake... no.
slackware. i'll check the menu stuff anyway. i can get a settings and an enlightenment menu, but neither of them is of any use if i can't run any programs
===(edit)
found that file and uncommented things that looked like they pertained to that menu. i'll try it out when i get back to that computer (i'm in compsci2 now)

I had the same problem, First I was running Mandrake 7.1 and enlightenment worked fine but the system had continous issues with my mouse. So I upgraded to 8, and haven't been able to figure out the enlightenment issues (though the mouse is much better.) This string of messages is the most help I have found so far.
I found the file, in /usr/X11R6/share/enlightenment/config/menu.cfg and went in and took most of the comment markers out, but it still didn't work. For a while I did end up with a very odd left click menu, but still no way to regenerate it (so i recommented the odd menu.) I think that the cfg file is pointing to the wrong place for the reconfigure menu script/app/file (whatever it is-- I am still very very green at all this.) Here is why...
In menus.cfg it says the following (line 73 btw):
ADD_MENU_ddTEXT_ITEM(Regenerate Menus", __A_EXEC, ENLIGHTENMENT_BIN"/e_gen_menu")
however when i ran a search for that file I found it in /usr/X11R6/bin/
For some reason this doesn't seem to add up to me, but like I said, I am a very very green user (just installed last weekend.)
Thank you
Dani :)

When I firsted installed E16 on GNOME 1.2 (the default version released in the RH7.1 distro) I had access to all the E menus - ie, left, right, and middle mouse buttons all opened Enlightenment menus. Then when I upgraded to Ximian GNOME 1.4, I only had access to the middle-mouse E menu, and the right button reverted back to the default desktop menu.
Either way, it doesn't matter: the middle button gives you access to ALL the E menus, and the left and right menus are just duplications of those menus.
