Hey I've been messin with Slackware again on the other HD I have and, well, I have to agree the install is a piece a cake up until I need to configure X.

When I get the sys installed and up n running (CLI) I then type in # xf86config and answer all the questions to the best of my knowledge. I've got a 16MB Nvidia Riva TNT.

When all questions are answered, I'm back the prompt and type # startx I get a SegFault or some other kind of error. Can't figure it out.

Question: Is anyone else using a Riva TNT with Slack and successfully configured X to run? And if so , Do you remember any of the settings?

I want to learn about Slackware but I cant get over this one stupid prob.

Thanks

Depends on what version of X you are running. If you are using X 3.3.5, then be sure that the server for your card is installed (svga?) and that you also have the VGA16 server and XF86Setup. Run XF86Setup - it should configure it properly.

Note - this is a shot in the dark, as I have a Voodoo3 in my Slack box.

I have a Riva TNT2 (16 rma also, actually a Xentor) running with XFree4 in slackware and XFree3.whatever in Debain.
For XFree4 in slackware, I just picked the corresponding entry (353 I think in the list).
For XFree3 I use the svga in 16 or 32 bits.

I dont know. I've tried gettin X up and running with different settings and keep getting an error or X would start up and be in some kind of screwed up 6 color mode.

Also when X does launch my mouse is all freaked out.

Maybe I need to get a Voodoo 3 card. Seems like that card doesn't create nearly as many problems as other do. Plus I could use a grey matter upgrade as well. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Slackware will just have to wait I guess.
