So what do you think of Slackware 8.0? Do you recommend staying with kernel 2.2.19 or going with kernel 2.4.5?

well i just installed it on my amd system and im satisfied with 2.2.19 (i compiled my own kernel tho) since 2.4.5 has issues with the old via/amd combo and the vm stuff is still unstable in alot of situations (read kt for more) ill stick with 2.2.19. i dont know if the via issues are fixed yet in 2.4.6 but i have no real reason to move to 2.4.x. and for 8.0 release it great if you got it but theres nothing special abou it that you cant get with 7.x without a few package downloads and upgrades. so bottom line. if you have 7.x and are happy dont bother.

Slack 8 is good. It seems to have alot of up-to-date goodies, and having the 2.2 kernel be default is no big deal for a slack user anyway. Personally I already had the second version of a custom 2.4.6 kernel installed and running about half an hour after I first stuck the CD in, but thats just me. ;)

Seriously though, Slackware has always been a great distro and this newest release is no exception to the rule. I ran into a couple of snags but thats to be expected with anything.

Probably the only thing I'd wish for Slack is to have autoslack or something along the same lines integrated into the system, similar to what dselect and apt-get has done for Debian. Of course you can install and run it after the fact, but if there were better standards in place with regards to how it upgrades the system, I'd like to see it become a standard part of the distro.

But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.
