I recently installed Redhat 7 and wanted to upgrade my kde. So I downloaded Kde2.0 and installed it. Here are a couple issues I ran into.
[list]
I had to force the rpm install. (--force)Is this normal?
When I booted up X (startx) Kde 2.0 came up fine and seems to be working great. Except that I have multiple icons for the same programs in the menu. Almost as if Kde 1.x and Kde 2.0 are running pulling resources from one another at the same time.

I am fairly new to Linux, but I totally love it. I used to be a <**hides face**> micr**** man. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Do you really need to ashamed to use Windows? I don't. It has it's place in the world as some apps are very good. The only problem I have with MS is their business tatics.

Anyways back to your question. I've installed KDE2 on my test PC at work and was not than impressed with. I think the reason for this is similar to your problem. I should have uninstalled the previous version of KDE and perhaps the menus, associations etc. would have all worked properly.

Next time I will uninstall the old first.

As for the '--force', I don't think I had to do that as I just followed the install procedures from kde.org in the correct order.
