I have just install Red Hat 7.1 with both Gnome and KDE. After doing some reading on your discussion board(Window Manager), in there it states that both Gnome and KDE are just desktop managers. I checked a number of web sites and found a rift between Gnome and KDE users of which is better. If they are just desktop managers what is the major differences between them? Also for someone from the Microsoft world which is the easier desktop manager to start with?

KDE is said to be easier for Windows users. Maybe not easier, but very similiar.
If you want quicker feedback, I would suggest you search and read the many other Gnome vs. KDE posts either in this forum or in General.

Since you've installed both, I think you should simply try them both and make a decision based on which looks prettier to you. Remember that if you decide not to go completely for KDE, say, you can still use applications that were designed for it. Same with GNOME.
For instance, I hated the look of KDE (personal taste - too much like Windows!), so initially went for GNOME. Then when I realised I didn't really need any of the stuff like desktop icons or panels or "Start"-type menus, I went for just a window-manager on its own - I eventually went for WindowMaker. However I still use the GNOME file manager because I like how it works.

Yeah just give everything a try and go with what suits you best.
I initially used KDE until I tried Blackbox on its own, everything ran quicker. Now I'm using Enlightenment.
Thats what I like about Linux, I can pick and choose.
