This is becoming a big issue for me at work, so I thought I'd seek some conformation here.

My understanding was that kernel 2.4 would include full 32-bit UID support - true or no?

(The problem is opening up our beowulfs to the university community, without having to set up separate accounts for users with high-bit UIDs).

Good question, i'm not sure myself but i think that 32bit UID is in place already under 2.4.0-test-whatever.You might one to check kernel mailing lists for more information just visit www.kernelnotes.org (http://www.kernelnotes.org) for links to them.Hope this helps.

On a side note, you could try to create an account for user(s) under kernel 2.4.0 with UID higher than 65365 and see what happens then...

according to http://www.linuxhq.com/kernel/v2.3/doc/Changes.html 32-bit UID support is there!
