Ok.... so I just found out the hard way that the 8139too driver is FUBAR in kernel 2.4.5? Is that right?

Has anyone compiled 2.4.6 on Slack 8 yet.. and if so... does the 8139too (rtl8139) driver work?

Its not even worth booting if I can't get to the network..... hence, I'm posting this from win2k.

I haven't tried it on Slack, but I'm using that driver on 2.4.5 in Debian. Was it working for you on previous 2.4.x kernels?

Otherwise you may want to check your modules file to see if the old driver is still trying to be loaded (rtl8139).

Hehe.... I just went ahead an compiled 2.4.6 on slack8... and the answer is YES!! The 8139too works just fine!

IT just would not work in 2.4.5... wonder what the deal was with that.
:) :)

was it the modual installed by slack or did you compile your own kernel/modules for 2.4.5?

I've read in other posts here that the rtl8139 module is a known problem with 2.4.5 and with the amount of complaint they would have received, I would imagine it would be fixed in the latest kernel.

They were the modules installed by slackware. I'm surprised the guy in that article got his going (albeit flaky).
